Question
Hi, Fehmida here from Literacy100. Personally in my day to day work I've been working with my team, volunteers and local organisations to continue to provide a literacy service in Birmingham. Specifically for homeless individuals who meet these needs: Are in/ have been in hotels and require specific support to boost confidence and ability to engage with housing applications. Have ESOL needs and have become isolated during social distancing measures - therefore leaving individuals unable to practice and build their English skills. Have an employment/further study goal that requires an English (and/or maths) qualification qualification but currently have no way of knowing what local FE colleges are going to provide and need some 'learning to learn' foundations so they can be ready to undertake a qualification when colleges are open again. We've also developed a 'hybrid' approach to our provision, one that I predict is going to stay. We cannot go back to face to face learning only, a hybrid approach that is flexible to all and covers a range of mediums is what's going to work best. We know that colleagues in other parts of the country need to know what else is out there. Are you a tutor in your area delivering something brilliant or do you know of any local services that could help homeless individuals? Please pop down the details below! Let's keep the conversation going and if anyone would like to know more about what's available in the midlands get in touch with me directly through Literacy100. All the best, Fehmida
